The many faces of Cogoleto

Cogoleto

Hiking, cycling, culture, good food, and – last but not least - the Mediterranean sea. Cogoleto is developing a new mix of resources for the post-pandemic season, with a view to go beyond the sun-sea-sand formula.

This centre on the border between the provinces of Genoa and Savona is the ideal destination for different needs&wants, both for the regional and Lombard-Piedmontese markets. Planning a one-day coast-countryside itinerary, however, means leaving out noteworthy attractions. Among the seaside sites with the highest number of free accesses to the beach, Cogoleto boasts the reputation of Christopher Columbus’s birthplace - his house still visible from the outside. The "Cogoleto da scoprire" project provides real-time information on local resources.

By the sea, beach clubs alternate with free-access beaches, albeit compliance with regulations is the rule. In the mountains, the paths towards Mount Beigua, the rock-climbing gyms, stopovers at the Pratorotondo hut, not to forget about the Casa Contadina (Farmer House) or the Casa della Miniera (Mine House), the departure points for many natural itineraries.

The creation of a road from the via Aurelia to higher-altitude areas is very recent. As for culture, must-sees include: the towers in the town centre, e.g., the monument bearing the name of the Spinola family, the works of art in the oratory, the Bianchi furnace - one of the very first in Italy to boast internal and external accessibility - ...

In short, there is a lot to discover and experience in Cogoleto.
